about

Written in loving memory of my mother Elizabeth Vance on the 50th anniversary of her death on Thursday 27th July 1967,aged 44,a week after my 12th birthday.

Both my sister Yvonne and myself have carried the hurt and seeming injustice of a mother's absence at all times, but especially the usual key family moments in life, she'd have been an epic grandmother and I may have been a better person.

The 1960s were a great time for music, with some enduring classics from 1967 in particular. It was an exciting and new era. I have attempted to infuse a little of the sound of the 60s,with the use of a 12 string electric (The Byrds) to finally give vent to the feelings of a 12 year old boy, mixed with the 62 year old,as I am now.

Lyrically,it was hard going and I don't mind admitting the vocals took more than one attempt due to losing sight of the page! I'm glad I did it and I'm glad it's done.

For Yvonne and myself and for those robbed of ever knowing a special lady.

lyrics

I always thought they'd fix you
Smart people find a cure
I knew you would never leave
I was completely sure

Bad things don't happen children
Folk reap what they sow
Welcome to the real world
So little did I know

I miss your laugh and presence
The calming of my fears
I've missed you every single day
Of the last fifty years

The fairytale ended
Dreams,they turned to dust
I closed down my affections
The betrayal took my trust

I miss your laugh and presence
The calming of my fears
I've missed you every single day
Of the last fifty years

I placed my faith in anger
Placed my back against the wall
I built sure,strong defences
I built them wide and tall

I always think,if I get close
To anyone at all
They'll be taken from me
Best not to get involved

I miss your laugh and presence
The calming of my fears
I've missed you every single day
Of the last fifty years

I miss your laugh and presence
The calming of my fears
I've missed you every single day
Of the last fifty years
