Bad City Blues
03:02
|
|||
A song of hopes and dashed dreams. So many talented people have been badly treated and exploited by business men,the practice continues to this day, maybe more so.
To quote Van Morrison,'Music is spiritual, the music business is not'.
I came in on the half past ten
Stardust in my eyes
My song was on the radio
I was aiming past the skies
Bad city
Bad city
Manager man he talked me up
I was the next best thing
He'd take care of business,sure
I'd just play and sing
Two years on down the line
Things they start to slow
The suit,he don't answer calls
And where that money go
Build me up for the fall
Leave me with nothing at all
A dry cold empty shell
In my own personal hell
Bad city
Bad city blues
I believed all they said
I thought they'd do me right
Yet here I am now bound by law
And a contract sewn up tight
I lined the pockets of the man
But it didn't get me far
He took my money, took my songs And left me my guitar
I still got my guitar
Bad city
Bad city blues

Inspired by the thought that nostalgia doesn't work, because what we remember is no longer really there. We can never go back. Home,as we recall it, no longer exists.
Extra help and inspiration came in the form of the wonderful Amanda Sanderson.
This wasn't the part I'd envisaged for Amanda, but as usual, things don't always run to plan. Despite the song not being in her key,she threw herself into the project, regardless and joyfully made the best of what was available.
Thank you for your vocals and your patience,Amanda,we'll do the thing properly in the future.
As the grey skies weep
And the rain pours down
I recall what used to be here
The stream where fish leap
And forest around
Have all disappeared
Fifty years have passed
'Tween the boy and the man
While we all got on with our lives
Yet change seems fast
In a short timespan
There's nothing I recognise
So,keep all your memories enshrined
In the brightly lit church of your mind
Wherever you've been
And wherever you've roamed
It's true, you can never go home
The boy who walked
The fields and the lanes
Is only a memory,in truth
The past is now locked
And the door wrapped in chains
Lost,along with his youth
Well,we'd all take a sip
From the fountain of youth
There's not much we wouldn't trade
But when time takes a nip
And we see the whole truth
We may have reason to be afraid
So,keep all your memories enshrined
In the brightly lit church of your mind
Wherever you've been
And wherever you've roamed
It's true, you can never go home

Radio Caroline
03:16
|
|||
For those too young to remember (most, these days!)In the early 60s there was very little of the new rock and roll on the radio. What you did hear was controlled by the BBC suits, who had no liking for this passing fad.
Young people in those days who wanted to hear their music all day long tuned into the pirate radio stations. My choice was Radio Caroline North, which was anchored just off the Isle of Man.
These pirate stations were involved in a running battle with the authorities,in the shape of the Postmaster General,Mr.Antony Wedgwood Benn, more commonly known as Tony Benn.
Eventually,Radio Caroline was shut down and the musical arse fell out of my world. I listened to the final sign off when they played the Tremeloes song "radio Caroline',then there was radio silence. I felt like I'd lost a friend.
The authorities gave us the token of BBC Radio 1,but although I listened, because it was all we had,it was never the same for me and I won't forget.
Here's to the young who misbehave everywhere and to the changes they bring.
I recall Caroline
Playing over the air
It takes me to another time
A fresh,new somewhere
Play to me,my radio
Put the music in my head
Make everything alright
That's what the DJ said
Playing on the airwaves
New stuff every day
Youth will always misbehave
Will always show the way
The Postmaster General
He didn't dig the sound
He plotted for the burial
Send music underground
Play to me,my radio
Put the music in my head
Make everything alright
That's what the DJ said
I heard the dying moments
When they took it all away
They gave us all a token
But I won't forget that day

Secrets (feat Paulski)
03:27
|
|||
As for the song? I don't think I need explain this one....
If you look into my eyes
You'll see an empty space
I hold my secrets deep inside
You won't read them on my face
Don't ask me questions
You know it's for the best
I'm keeping all my playing cards
Close,to my chest
I must be quiet and never cry
No one must ever know
The police would come and take him
I'd have nowhere to go
Today has been a good one
He hasn't hit me much
Oh,my little brother,he's the one
To get the personal touch.

Human
03:07
|
|||
A song lamenting the ability of some to recognise the frailties of human nature in others.
Saturday's bottle fell from the table
And shattered on Sunday's floor
The sound didn't make it through the haze
Of what I had the night before
I'm not perfect,I am flawed
But you get what you see
When you peel away the layers, well
It'll all still be me
I'll never be a politician
Never flatter to deceive
I've no coat of many colours
My heart is on my sleeve
It wasn't meant to be this way
To end up alone
Beauty is only skin deep
But ugly goes to the bone
I'm not perfect,I am flawed
But you get what you see
When you peel away the layers, well
It'll all still be me
I'm not perfect,I am flawed
I lack some discipline
I'm no fine example of
A model citizen

Contradictions
03:25
|
|||
Musings and observations on the contradictions in life. Basically, any old excuse for a song!
Express Delivery drives slowly down the street
The 24 hour shop's open, but it always shuts at three
I'll love you forever, like the words of the song
You are my one and only 'til the next one comes along
Emergency lines are busy, you'll have to wait
Your call's important to us,ring back when it's too late
Life is freely given, yet we all will pay
To ensure eternal bliss just join our church today
Everything is random
No one means a thing
Nothing works in tandem
Nothing's what it seems
Everything is random
No one means a thing
Nothing works in tandem
Nothing's what it seems

Breathe in Breathe Out
03:10
|
|||
I'm super great at never taking my own advice, but perhaps this may help someone in a tight spot to gain some perspective.
Breathe in breathe out
Come and go
Be quiet and shout
Ebb and flow
Walk and run
Strive and rest
The moon and the sun
The worst and the best
Chalk and cheese
Fiction and fact
Cure and disease
Opposites attract
Hot and cold
Wet and dry
Young and old
Live and die
Angry and calm
Pleasure and pain
Safe and damned
Leave and remain
Don't stop now,you're doing grand
All you got to do is play your hand
Laugh and cry
Love and hate
Earth and sky
Choice and fate
Sick or healed
Shallow or deep
Fight or yield
Wake or sleep
Don't stop now,you're doing grand
All you got to do is play your hand
Breathe in breathe out
Come and go
Be quiet and shout
Ebb and flow

Look Up
02:40
|
|||
Sometimes we get s fixated by things going on in our personal lives, that we lose perspective and we sweat the 'small stuff'. Kinda like walking with our heads down and not seeing what's all around. This is a reminder to myself as well as anyone else who tends to indulge too much in the regarding of the belly button fluff of life!
Heads up y'all!
Walking with your head down
Looking at the ground
Life in tunnel vision
Blinkered,tightly bound
Living in a bubble
Insular and bound
While avoiding trouble
You miss what's all around
Rolled up in cotton wool
Safe from all harm
A life of only half full
But free from alarm
Look up
There's a whole universe
Listen up
There's so much to be heard
Ever wary,taking care
Avoiding risk or chance
Treading water,going nowhere
Maintain a careful stance
Look up
There's a whole universe
Listen up
There's so much to be heard

Thank You
03:02
|
|||
Walking is great,I love a good walk.
Pick them up and put them down...feet that is. :)
I'm glad I'm still around
To pick them up and put them down
Standing up and breathing air
Happy just to be somewhere
Thank you for the air I breathe
Thanks for what I don't believe
Thank you for the freedom of choice
And the grand illusion of having a voice
Pick them up and put them down
I'm just happy to be around
Thank you for the air I breathe
Thanks for what I don't believe
Thank you for the freedom of choice
And the grand illusion of having a voice

The Meaning of Life
02:24
|
|||
A light hearted poke at those taking life too seriously!
Some believe in the power of love
Some believe in god above
Some believe in stories tall
Some believe in nothing at all
Some believe you must have rules
They don't believe in suffering fools
Some believe you must be good
But all the people everywhere believe in the power of food
We all want to know
Am I a saint or a sinner
But the real meaning of life is..
What's for dinner?
Some believe they've found a way
They won't hear what we say
I don't know,but I have a hunch
Survival's all about not being...
Somebody's lunch
We all want to know
Am I a saint or a sinner
But the real meaning of life is..
What's for dinner?
